Buena Vista, Co

Nestled in the Collegiate mountains overlooking Buena Vista and the beautiful Arkansas River mountain valley, this second home is a central gathering spot for an adventurous loving couple, grown children and their grandchildren. Ready to downsize and plan for future retirement, this was my third project with this couple and first vacation home.

Knowing Ann & Loren well helped ease any stress there might be from planning from afar. We carefully analyzed existing furnishings to decide what would move to Colorado and what would stay in Dallas. Each bedroom is named for a state in which they have lived and showcase family heirlooms and memorabilia. A few pieces that came with the house were used and repurposed. The upstairs and downstairs living spaces feature cozy neutral toned furnishings with just the right amount of color, pattern and connection to the outdoors to complement the stunning landscape. Custom cushions around the main floor fireplace add additional seating and the perfect spot to curl up with a good book or stare at the mountains.

When the house was complete and ready for a big family gathering summer of 2020, the pandemic prevented everyone from congregating. Instead, the homeowners graciously gifted that time to my family of four. What a gift to get to live in and share a design project with my husband and boys! The month long stint allowed me to work on the details, arrange bookcases and hone in on local resources. Since then we have come back for several different seasons and have deep affection for this place.

The love and generosity poured out from this home and it’s owners is unparalleled. They share it and gift time here to many for tranquility, retreat and renewal. Written in the pages of their guest book are the stories of Trails End and tell how a home and place can transform.
